Barrel

Barrel 3h, Maya. Photoshop




















After the crate, the barrel must be one of the most famous objects in games. Especially FPS:s. So I thought I would try and make one, with all the necessary maps that follow. Also tried to make this one a bit more realistic than I usually make my graphics.

Took much longer time than I first thought because:

1: Changing one's style from cartoony to realistic doesn't come easy
2: Never worked much with either normalmaps or specularmaps

Lessons learned:
Although optimized, it does not look very good close up to mirror the lid, to gain some resolution. Probably because the rust is pretty stong on this barrel, which makes clear recognizable patterns.
Overall normalmap too strong, should try and make it stand out less.
Next object should be faster though.

Mudbox, Street Fighter Character

Figured it would be fun to do some characters from SF IV, since they have exaggerated features, and all are very different. First up is Guile, with his trademark helicopter-landing pad haircut
It is all based on one conceptdrawing. Started with basic headshape.
