Barrel

Barrel 3h, Maya. Photoshop




















After the crate, the barrel must be one of the most famous objects in games. Especially FPS:s. So I thought I would try and make one, with all the necessary maps that follow. Also tried to make this one a bit more realistic than I usually make my graphics.

Took much longer time than I first thought because:

1: Changing one's style from cartoony to realistic doesn't come easy
2: Never worked much with either normalmaps or specularmaps

Lessons learned:
Although optimized, it does not look very good close up to mirror the lid, to gain some resolution. Probably because the rust is pretty stong on this barrel, which makes clear recognizable patterns.
Overall normalmap too strong, should try and make it stand out less.
Next object should be faster though.

Mudbox, Street Fighter Character

Figured it would be fun to do some characters from SF IV, since they have exaggerated features, and all are very different. First up is Guile, with his trademark helicopter-landing pad haircut
It is all based on one conceptdrawing. Started with basic headshape.

A first go at MUD box

Used the basic head as a starting point, and worked from there.
This guy has a sort of braid-chain, hair-do. Need to practice more ears though, looks a bit strange.




















Second face using the basic head as base. A bit more tough, thuglike type, tried to make a believable haircut. Also started using the Wacom instead of mouse, much better.




















Lastly, added a paintlayer and gave him a diffuse colormap, gave him much more life.
